19 of Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been earned on hard surfaces
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden championship for 882 days with a win over opponent Moutet in the tournament final.
The Russian, a former number one, has had a torrid season, achieving just a single victory at the major tournaments and undergoing a difficult moment at the US Open.
His unpredictability on the professional circuit - and issues with his serve in especial - resulted in him falling of the world's top 10 and finally separating with long-time mentor Gilles Cervara.
Presently collaborating with his coach and Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily improved in the recent weeks - culminating in a hard-fought three-set victory over opponent Moutet.
This marks Medvedev's initial trophy after the Rome competition and first on a hard surface after spring of that year.
Victory also indicates he has achieved 21 championships at twenty-one various tournaments.
"For the first time I'm at a competition with my both daughters together, so to win a title is especially meaningful," commented world number 14 Medvedev.
"This title is in tribute of my younger daughter Victoria, because the first title I won when my child Alisa was born was for her."
Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his previous six finals, including in the German tournament in the past months.
The player's defensive strategy and recurring emotional displays on the tennis court had prompted commentators to question if his capacity to play at the highest level was finished.
However the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to come to the net and compete aggressively, backed up by an enhanced serving game.
The champion came back from a break down in the opening set against the tricky opponent, winning four of the final five games to go ahead.
The pair swapped break points in the following set before the Frenchman, attempting for his maiden tour victory, seized the initiative to push for a decider.
The opponent rescued 4 early chances in a close deciding set before the champion won the break to fifteen to close out the victory.
Suitably, Medvedev secured victory with a rally at the front of the court, with Moutet failing to control a return after over two and a half hours.
